The Placenta and The Pine Tree

(For those of you who haven't heard this story... here it is... again)

I'll spare you the long, boring story of my first delivery. Honestly, I'm three years out after my third child and I don't really feel the need anymore to relive my first in gory detail (lucky you). Don't get me wrong, at some point I did... just not now=)

Oh no... this story is specifically what happened after we got home from the hospital. See, I was one of those 'weird' people who wanted to take my placenta home because I was going to plant it under a tree. I had heard the idea before and thought it was kind of cool. Sort of an everlasting tribute to the baby and a very granola way of giving back to the earth (and all of that hippie hoop-la). So, get the placenta home (in a mint green, plastic bucket provided by the hospital) and we don't have the tree right away so what do we do? We freeze the placenta.

In our freezer.
Along with the ice that we use for guests.
Along with the chicken breasts.

(Don't worry, I'm horrifying myself. And yes, I've grown as a person over the years)

Several months later we decide to buy a small pine tree. But alas, we lived in a triplex and we didn't want to plant a tree in the ground there where someday we would move away and leave our placenta tree behind (wait for it... ). So my dear sweet husband buys a whiskey barrel planter and some potting soil for our little placenta tree and I put the placenta out to thaw so we could get it out of the mint green plastic bucket to plant.

The bucket, as it turns out, was not so sturdy. I came home that day to find blood (at least it was my own) all over the counter because the plastic had cracked. Eeeew. Yes, I know I'm a nurse but it was still freaking gross. Somehow chicken blood, cow blood, and pig blood are all acceptable forms of bodily fluid on my counter. But when it comes to humans... I have a strict 'no bodily fluids' policy on my kitchen counters.

Anyway.

Clean the mess up. Then the nurse in me comes out and I have to investigate my placenta because it's cool. And yes... placentas are cool. Judge me if you want. I'm past caring (okay, I care a little... but not enough to keep me up all night). We get the placenta in its bed of dirt and put the little pine tree in its new home. Pretty exciting right?

Maybe not. I grab the hose to water the new tree and what does it do? It bleeds. All down the driveway. After being horrified again at all of my bodily fluids on public display I quickly hose them all away into the dirt and clean up. Watering the little pine tree I'm thinking to myself that this will all be over with soon and the placenta will stop bleeding after a day or two.

Boy was I wrong.

Not only did it not stop with the horrible bloody show but then it started to decay and apparently there was not enough dirt on God's green earth to keep the smell from emanating through the planter because that little tree reeked something fierce. I tried to love the tree. I tried to keep watering it. I finally moved it over to the dirt in a corner by the carport where its bleeding and foul odor would be less offensive to the neighbors (I kind of felt like an oppressive father to a young daughter at this point, but what else was I to do? It's not like I could give it a bath and a tampon!?). Finally I just couldn't take care of my little placenta tree anymore. I had to realize that it had been a mistake to bring the damn thing home in the first place. It had been a mistake to plant it in a planter and not the ground. I tried to be a good little hippie mom but I should just get with the times and realize that I was no more a hippie than my mom had been.
Damn.
I so wanted to be 80 years old with grand children who would come over to the house and I could gross them out by telling them that their father's placenta was under that tree over there...

The Fabulous Flashing Phallic Earrings

I'm sure you're all wondering how the toy party went... It was FABULOUS!! But that's not really what this story's about. This story is about the earrings that I wore to the party. I wore the deliciously naughty flashing-penis earrings pictured above. Yes... that's right. You know you're jealous.
After the party I took them off and put them in my purse. Never thought much of it. Occasionally I'd open my purse to pull out my wallet or camera and get a little chuckle from the penis earrings residing comfortably (incognito) at the bottom of my bag.
Couple weeks go by and I take my badge out of my purse to start off my work day. I go through all the motions: Pick my patient from the board, get report from the off-going nurse at the nurse's station, then gather a few things together to go meet the new patient.
I had been in her room for a few minutes when it became apparent that we needed to turn her to her side. As I look down to rearrange her pillows what do I notice on her bed??
Yep... wait for it...

A FLASHING PENIS EARRING!!

The thoughts that came next gyrated around in my head for maybe a millisecond.

1. OH MY GOD
2. This patient has the same earrings as me
3. How the hell did one of my earrings get into my patients bed
4. Should I ask her if it's hers
5. Should I leave it there and pretend I didn't see it
6. How quickly can I pick it up and put it elsewhere before she or her husband realize I've just picked something up from the bed and put it in my pocket?
7. Stay calm, try to breathe, don't make any funny faces

After that little cacophony of thoughts I rapidly picked up the flashing penis earring and placed it on the desk behind the label maker and went about the rest of my care.

I totally forgot about it. (Yes, I'm that good of a nurse... BWAHAHA)

It wasn't until later on that night... oh let's say around the magical hour of 3 a.m. that we were all chatting and the realization came to me that the flashing penis earring was still sitting where I'd left it. So I darted up and out of my seat... ran to the room... and thankfully, it was still there. The patient had been out of the room for several hours as well in case you were wondering.

Of course all the girls wanted to know what I had to run away from the desk from. I don't know how they caught the entire story between my hysterical laughing and tears but somehow by the end of it all we were all cracking up. I want to know how in the hell that little sucker hitched a ride on my badge and went unnoticed all the way from me putting it on in the car to reaching my patients room?!! Help a sister out people! Really! No one notices a flashing penis earring?? I find that hard to believe!

I know I've said that I'm going to try and merge my Mistress Auri self with my work self... but I draw the line at leaving phallic accouterments in bed with my patients.

That's just taking things a bit too far if you ask me.

Here's to hoping you all have something fabulously humbling and/or embarrassing happen to YOU this week!

The Amazing, Tantalizing, Infuriating, Liberating, Vibrating, Flying Dildo... (as promised)

Okay... so I'm just warning you before you start this one... this is a true 'Mistress Auri' type of post. You'll be hearing lots of grown up words (as we call them in our house) and experiencing a very personal story from yours truly.

Duh.

Now that that's out of the way!
LET'S GET ON WITH THE GOOD SHIT!

You need a little history to appreciate my husband and I in the bedroom. We have a great sex life. My interests have changed over the years as far as foreplay are concerned but I've always remained open with him and communicated what I've needed
You should be impressed...

So... the only time I like him using his fingers for a little pre game warm up are when a) I'm drunk or b) I'm already warmed up. He knows this!

So... I wake up to him asking me to take the oldest to school because he's tired (and I'm not apparently)... okay fine... I'll be good because I want sex.
I come home and he's still sleeping (although in his defense he has folded a load of laundry in my absence...good man).

I climb into bed and the two youngest come down and knock on the door because they're hungry (I am slowly getting less and less interested in sex)

I get up from bed and figure I'll give them food... after all, that will buy us and extra 10 minutes and that means we may get to start of with a little oral sex for me... which is a fab way to start off the morning! (but again... why haven't they eaten in my absence? another unanswered question.)

Kids fed... but then my annoying female brain notices that the washing machine isn't going (I know... believe me... I'm annoying myself by now) and I start to get a little irritated that hubby didn't throw a load in when he took the other load out... because...

DUH...

THAT'S WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE!

on to the dildo part...

I get back into bed... slip out of the robe. He's out of his clothes now too and what does he do?! He sticks his hand right between my legs! SORRY! I'm just not a light switch... I have more than two functions!

So I pull away a bit and he gets pissed off. He asks what I want (so thoughtful of him!)... to which I gracefully reply with the tone of a trucker in heat...
"get on top of me"

Well apparently that's when the shit hit the fan folks! Because at that moment... He jumped up out of bed and stormed off into the closet.

WHAT THE FUCK?!

Sitting there naked contemplating what just happened...
out of nowhere...

a large, flesh colored, veiny, supple, dildo comes flying out of the walk-in closet towards me on the bed narrowly missing my head as my husband is exclaiming
"Here! Use this! It's obvious you just want a dick to rub up against anyway!"

Well excuse the flying (dildo) fuck out of me!! I gathered the sheets up around me... slightly amused (thought I'd never admit that to him), horrified, pissed beyond recognition, and grabbed the very perfect (yes ladies... very perfect) dildo firmly in my right hand, gripped tightly and screamed and the top of my lungs... "That was rude! Don't you ever fucking do that again!" And with an extra squeeze to my good buddy whom I don't normally throw anywhere... I tossed that sonofabitch back into the closet with the intention of seriously maiming anyone/thing that it came in contact with. I'm sure that I'll be getting a call from the fast pitch coach any day now... they had to have heard that pitch at least 50 miles away.

Well... what came after is neither very exciting... nor really any of your business...
(yet somehow that all was... )
Suffice it to say that I am sitting here with my fab hubby writing this and I told him that I would be.
He though it was a lovely idea...

To bring the story back around. I went back in the closet later that day to collect my large friend and put him back in his house... couldn't find him. Didn't feel like asking hubby where he was yet. Oh well... I'd find him someday (or someone would...)

YAH...

YESTERDAY!
Sitting there folding laundry on the bed with the entire family... my middle guy, Aidan, comes walking up to the bed from the closet holding what?

OH LORD... NO... PLEASE...

Yes... just when you thought the story couldn't get any worse. He found it. He was swinging it around. He's like "what's this guys"... with a completely straight face my hub was like "it's a fake penis... what's it look like."

Now he won't stop asking about the thing. I paid $70 god damned for that thing and now after one awful week of bad luck with it I don't think I'll touch it again...

I need a nap
And maybe some Xanax

Craig... You're a funny, funny man!

Just a warning... if you have a week bladder or a dodgy heart... think twice. I almost peed my pants and I'm still having palpitations.
